Ahmed Hamdi Tunnel under the Suez Canal

The tunnel under the Suez Canal is a two-lane road with a width of 3.75 meters each and minimum headroom of 5 meters. Ahmad Hamdi Tunnel is actually located near Shallufa, 15 km north of Suez and was built between 1975-80.

The total length of the tunnel and approaches is 4.2 km with a maximum depth of 51 meters below ground level. The ventilation system is a fully traverse type, with fresh air supplied from ducts below the road deck and polluted air exiting from the ducts above the suspended ceiling.
