Downtown Cairo Upgrading Project
The project, focused on a major traffic hub of Cairo, includes the reconstruction of Tahrir Square, Mariette Pasha Street and Abdel Moneim Riad Square,
in addition to Ramses Street until its intersection with Ghamra, and the reconstruction of all sidewalks along those same areas. Upgrading the road network included:
- Reconstruction sectors: section consists of 30 cm-thick base course to be executed in two layers of crushed stones, well graded with
maximum grade of 2 inches, in addition to 2 layers of asphalt, a binder course of 6 cm thickness and a wearing surface of 5 cm thickness
- Maintenance sectors: section consists of repairing all damage and the application of a wearing surface of 5 cm thickness
- Sidewalks reconstruction: section consists of mastic layer of 2 cm over 15 cm of well-graded crushed stone
- Curbs were constructed from cast-in-situ plain concrete
