Swaziland International Airport

In 2001-02, the Kingdom of Swaziland decided to construct a new international airport in the Sikhupe area. The project, valued at US$ 90 million, included the following components:

• An airport master plan illustrating the phased development plan.
• A single runway with provision for a parallel runway in the future. The length of the runway was designed to accommodate a fully loaded 747-400 aircraft including an appropriate lighting system, sufficient parking bays and an apron area.
• A modern air traffic control tower with approach control facilities, associated airport surveillance radar (primary radar) and the necessary navigation and communications equipment.
• Adequate hangar facilities to accommodate at least two of the designated aircraft simultaneously, and maintenance facilities for the projected operations.
