Greater Cairo Metro Line 1
The first line of Cairos Metro system was executed between 1981-86. The main characteristics of the project are: internal width of 8.7 m; internal height of 6.0 m and a total length of 45 km from El Marj to Helwan. The raft thickness is 60 cm and walls are of prefabricated panels, 45 cm thick; slabs are of prefabricated beams.
The stations are designed to permit easy exchange of passengers. Their length is 197 m and are 19 meters wide for the interchange stations and 17 meters for the others. The stations are sized for a total flow of 85,000 passengers per hour.
