New Navigation Lock at Delta Barrage

In 1996-99, ACE took on the planning for the construction of a new navigation lock at the Delta Barrage, Egypt, directly downstream of the existing barrage lock, with a 240 m long waiting berth at the downstream side. The new lock structure is of reinforced concrete, with a total length of 180 m, a usable width of 17 m, and a lock chamber height of 10.4 m.

The lock entrance and waiting berths were designed as tender structures guided by steel tender piles. This crucial project also included the design of about 100 villages and all housing requirements, central village, roads, and necessary infrastructures including potable water, waste water, etc. The contract was valued at 100 million Egyptian pounds.
